The Path
A map of Western philosophy that I keep adding to, running from era to sub-era, school, philosopher, and finally the ideas and texts each thinker is known for. Colors show each tradition's stance toward religion and culture.
How to use the map
- Full Map is the diagram exactly as I drew it. Drag to move around, pinch or scroll to zoom, or double-tap to zoom in. Tap any name to see where it fits, what's under it, and a Wikipedia link.
- Browse & Search lays the same map out as an outline you open one level at a time. Tap a box to open it.
- The soft colored bands on the Full Map trace how some big ideas were handed down over time. Pick one from Idea threads to follow it step by step.
- Search works in both views and jumps to whatever you pick. The square button makes the map fill the screen.
